Himeyuri no tou ( Himeyuri no tou )

A war memorial located in Itoman City, Okinawa Prefecture. It was erected after the end of World War II to commemorate the schoolchildren who were killed in the fierce battle of Okinawa.

The southern area of Okinawa Prefecture was a fierce war zone during the war, and many schoolchildren died in the Third Surgery of Okinawa Army Hospital as collateral damage of the war. Himeyuri Tower is a memorial for these academics.

"Himeyuri no tou" also houses the Himeyuri Peace Museum, where visitors can learn about the tragic history of the war at the time, and where the memoirs of survivors from that time and other valuable materials are on display.

By visiting "Himeyuri no tou", visitors can get in touch with the past wars that took place in Okinawa, learn about the tragic history of those times, and have a desire for peace.
