Okinawa History

In Okinawa Prefecture, there existed a kingdom called the Ryukyu Kingdom from the 1400s to the 1800s. As a result, some of the facilities from that time remain in various places in the prefecture and are popular sightseeing spots.

Architectural monuments such as Shuri Castle and Shikinaen Garden, and castle ruins such as Katsuren Castle Ruins, Zakimi Castle Ruins, and Nakijin Castle Ruins are examples.

In addition, war-related facilities are located mainly in the southern region, as the area was the scene of fierce fighting during World War II.

Himeyuri Tower, Peace Memorial Park, and the former naval headquarters bunker are some examples.
