Sea road ( kaichuu douro )
The Kaichuudouro is a 5 km long road extending from the Katsuren Peninsula on the main island of Okinawa to four outlying islands: Heianza Island, Hamahika Island, Miyagi Island, and Ike Island.
Although called the Sea road, it is actually a bridge-like road that spans over the sea. Because the road is surrounded by the sea, the view is very nice and it is famous as a driving course.
In the center of the Sea road is a facility called "Umi no Eki Ayahashi-kan" where you can eat at a restaurant and buy souvenirs. The Sea Culture Museum, located on the second floor of the Ayahashikan, offers visitors the opportunity to learn about the history of the construction of the sea road.
You can also enjoy the view of the sea from the pedestrian bridge and marine sports from the beach
Each of the islands connected by the Sea road has its own unique charm.
Henza Island is the entrance island. Along the road, visitors are greeted by artwork created by local children.
Hamahiga Island is considered one of the sacred islands of Okinawa and is home to sacred sites related to Ryukyu's founding gods.
Miyagi Island is home to the Nuchi-Unau salt manufacturing factory, where visitors can learn about Okinawa's salt manufacturing industry and the allure of salt.
Ikei Island has beaches such as Ike Beach and Odomari Beach, where visitors can enjoy swimming. There is also an archaeological site called the Nakahara Ruins, where you can see what a Jomon-era settlement looked like.
The Sea Road is a sightseeing spot where you can not only drive through the beautiful ocean of Okinawa, but also experience the history and culture of Okinawa.
