Ruins of Katsuren-castle 1

A stronghold of the Chubu region in the Ryukyu Kingdom period. Katsuren Castle was built on a natural cliff and offers a wide view of central and southern Okinawa.

The castle is known as the castle where the Amawari, a force that resisted the Ryukyu Kingdom until the end, lived.

It was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000.

In addition to visiting the ruins of the castle, the Katsuren Castle Ruins Resting Area displays artifacts and sells local products.
