Ruins of Katsuren-castle ( katsuren-jou ato )
A stronghold of the Chubu region in the Ryukyu Kingdom period. Katsuren Castle was built on a natural cliff and offers a wide view of central and southern Okinawa.
The castle is known as the castle where the Amawari, a force that resisted the Ryukyu Kingdom until the end, lived.
It was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000.
In addition to visiting the ruins of the castle, the Katsuren Castle Ruins Resting Area displays artifacts and sells local products.
